Weekend’s Cool Spell to be Replaced by Warmth Through September’s End
Temperatures this weekend in the eastern half of the United States ranged from 5 to ten degrees below normal. Sunday night, frost and/or freezes are expected from Pennsylvania into all of New England. In Atlanta, the high temperature today of 73 was ten degrees below normal, and overnight lows will likely bottom out in the mid 50s by Tuesday morning. With Autumn exactly one week away, it looks like Fall’s cooler weather is rolling in on schedule.
That is, until you take a look at the extended forecast from September 22nd through 26th:

The eastern half of the country will see quite a reversal and a return to summer like weather. For example, in Buffalo, NY, the forecast high for September 25th is 78 degrees, while the normal high is only 67. International Falls, Minnesota shows a forecast high of 69 degrees on the 23rd, with the normal high being 62. The Indian Summer like weather is expected to continue through the end of the month.
Closer to home, the Atlanta area will see highs in the upper 70s the week of the 22nd, which is just about normal.
