Fall Sticks Its Nose In, Atlanta May Get Rain
What might be the first fall cold front of 2007 is making its presence known with cooler temperatures in the upper Plains states today. The front currently stretches from Cleveland, Ohio southwest towards Oklahoma, and is bringing rain along that line. However much cooler temperatures are forecast for the area behind the front:
While folks in Georgia might wish that the cooler weather would continue to move south, at least for the moment, the front’s movement is being slowed by high pressure off the Atlantic Coast. As that system weakens, the front will move across Georgia and stall over the state, bringing a good chance of rain beginning on Tuesday, just in time for the Gwinnett County Fair and the PGA Tour Championship golf tournament, and continuing through next weekend.
The procession of fronts out of Canada bringing colder air to the United States is a regular feature of Autumn weather, as the days get shorter. Another area of high pressure is forecast to move south again next weekend. and it is likely to reach further south than this week’s front did. If the next system works as advertised, by the time the rain is pushed out of the area a week from now, Atlanta could see high temperatures below 80 degrees for the first time since mid-July.
