Soggy Weekend On Tap For Southeast US

After record cold last weekend, the upcoming weekend could bring Georgia more rain than we’ve seen in quite a while. A low pressure system now getting organized over Texas will move east over the next 24 hours, and by Saturday afternoon, we should start to see showers and thunderstorms, with the worst of the precipitation on Saturday evening and early Sunday morning. Here’s what the Weather Service is calling for in terms of rainfall:

I’ve seen potential rain amounts from between two and four inches predicted for Georgia, with the most rainfall occurring in the central part of the state. And, it seems we’ve not gotten all of the rainfall the weather service and other forecasters have predicted for the past several storms.

If we do get two inches of rain, that will be almost a quarter of the total rain for 2007 as recorded both here, and in Atlanta. Right now, with 8.4 inches of rain recorded, were just under half of the 16.6 inches of rain during a normal year to date. It would also be the first time we’ve gotten two inches of rain at once since back on November 15th.

No matter how much rain we get, once the front passes through on Sunday, we’ll have another breezy day, and for the next week or so, pleasant mid-April weather.
