October Cooler Than Normal For Much of the Nation

The Weather Service has released its climate data for October, and it shows that much of the country experienced cooler weather than normal last month, and considerably above average rainfall.

Nationwide, it was the 52nd coolest month in the 112 years of records. Below normal temperatures were prevalent in the Southeast, Midwest, and the mountain states. Here in Georgia, temperatures averaged two degrees below normal, making last month the 30th coolest October on record.

As far as rainfall goes, it was the 12th wettest October on record nationally, with excessive rainfall in the Northeast, Midwest, and much of the deep South. Georgia and neighboring South Carolina were the exceptions in the South, with the Peach State having near normal rainfall.

For the entire year, however, we’re still shooting for the third warmest year on record.
