Nature’s Fireworks Hold Off Until Later This Week
If, like many Gwinnettians, you plan on spending time outside today and tonight, you’ll notice a change to more humid weather, but for the most part, the day and evening should be dry.
The high pressure system that has provided warm, dry air during the first part of the holiday weekend is moving away, and today’s weather is being affected by the tropical air mass that brought needed rainfall to the Houston and New Orleans areas during the first part of the weekend. As a result, we’ll continue to see temperatures in the mid 90’s, but with more humid air. While there is a chance of hit or miss thunder this afternoon and evening, most areas will stay dry.
From Wednesday through Friday, our weather will be affected both by the tropical system approaching from the west, and a cold front approaching from the north. This front will bring rain and a chance of severe weather to the Ohio valley today. The two storms will meet in Georgia on Thursday, which will be our best chance of rain for the week. However, the systems will be considerably weaker by that time, and we’re likely to see half an inch of rain on average.
By Friday, the systems will have cleared out, and we should see the dry air and lower humidity behind the cold front, along with slightly cooler temperatures.
