Enjoy the Cool Weather

I hope you have been enjoying the cool, dry weather we have had since the first of June. I’ve turned off the air conditioner and have left the windows open. Actually, the weather patter driving the pleasant conditions in Georgia is very similar to the one we had in early May, with a closed low sitting over the Northeastern US bringing prevailing winds from the northwest.

Over the past six months our weather has alternated between spells of warm and cool weather. Recently, we saw a cooler than normal first half of May, and then the furnace turned on from May 20th through the end of the month.

I don’t know exactly how long the cool-to-normal temperatures and especially the lower than normal humidity will last. The Weather Service is calling for warmer than normal temperatures in its 6-10 and 10-14 day forecasts. Other forecasts call for high temperatures in the low 80s for the next two weeks, which would be about normal.

Sometime in the next few weeks we are likely to see our normal Summer pattern return, when it gets to 80 degrees by 9 AM, with dewpoints around 70 degrees. It’s just part of Atlanta in the summer.
