Why the Temperature Will Be 20 degrees Warmer This Weekend
If you take a look at the weather forecast for the next week or so, you’ll see high temperatures near 90 degrees from Saturday the 20th through Wednesday the 24th of May. This is about 20 degrees warmer than it was this week.
So, what’s the difference? This week’s weather was controlled by a low pressure system centered around New England. In a low pressure system, the air rotates counter clockwise around the center of the low. That means that the air flowing into Atlanta was largely coming from the northwest, where the temperatures are cool and dry.
Now that the low is moving out over the Atlantic Ocean, the effects of the low are reduced, and temperatures are governed more by the heat generated by the sun, and high pressure over the Caribbean. This brings in warmer air from the South. Temperatures by the beginning of the week could be close to 90 degrees, and while dewpoints will remain low enough that it won’t feel really muggy, you’ll know that summer is definitely on the way.
