Near Record Temperatures Bring June Weather to April

Today’s recorded high temperature in Lawrenceville of 87 degrees was one degree shy of the record for April 14th, however continued warm weather over the Easter weekend will bring a continued possibility of record warmth. The temperature at Hartsfield airport was 85 degrees.

Even though it was so warm, low humidity kept the heat index lower than the actual temperature, and with light winds, it was a great day to be outside. The warm temperatures are likely to continue through midweek, when a chance of thunderstorms and the passing of a front will bring highs down to a more normal low to mid 70s.

The map to the right shows today’s warm temperatures as of late afternoon. The high temperatures are likely to bring an end to what is left of the azaleas and dogwoods, along with the irises and other spring flowers.

The major concern on the weather front is the continued presence of dry weather conditions. Although the long range forecast for the next ten days or so calls for more than average precipitation, we have had just over half an inch of rain this month. Now is probably a good time to consider watering your lawn.
