Gwinnett to Enjoy Wonderful Labor Day Weekend Weather

Fortunately for those that don’t want to spend tremendous amounts of money on gas to get out of town this Labor Day weekend, the weather here in Georgia is expected to be wonderful. Mostly sunny weather is expected at least until Thursday the 8th, with temperatures ranging from a little warmer than our normal high of 86 degrees the first part of the period, to a little cooler than normal early next week. Evening low temperatures will be cooler than the normal low of 68, and could even drop below 60 over the weekend.

The pleasant weather is courtesy of a ridge in the central US, and a trough in the east. A ridge tends to push the jet stream north, making it warmer in the area affected by the ridge. A trough has the opposite effect. This combination will bring cool, dry northern air into Georgia. (Unfortunately, the ridge isn’t far enough west to bring the same relief to the Gulf Coast, which is likely to remain hot and humid).

Things are also likely to stay relatively calm on the tropical front. Lee has been degraded to a tropical depression, and will likely go extratropical sometime today. Meanwhile, the weather service has identified Tropical Depression Fourteen, which is likely to become Tropical Storm Maria sometime later today. The expected pattern, however, will keep her away from the US coastline, as the remnants of Katrina act as a shield against further tropical intrusions.
