Memorial Day Outlook: Sunday Likely the Best Day

I’ve been keeping an eye on the weather chances for Memorial Day weekend, and to sum up the forecasts, there’s not a lot of confidence in what exactly will happen, but Sunday is likely to be the best day of the three.

The bright sunshine and low humidity we’ve enjoyed for most of the week is on its way out as of later this evening, as a cold front approaches us from the northwest. Showers behind the front may reach into our area on Saturday, but it is uncertain how far south they will penetrate. Whether the rain reaches us or not, things will improve Saturday night and into Sunday, before the next round of possible precipitation comes in Sunday night and into the holiday.

However, recent model runs diverge on exactly when Monday’s storm will arrive, and how intense the weather will be. Forecasters as the National Weather Service are hedging their bets, with less than a 50% chance of rain through the weekend. I guess I am doing the same thing. I played hooky from work the last two afternoons in order to plant some annuals and perennials while the ground was dry, but I’m planning on turning on the sprinklers tomorrow morning to keep things from drying out too much if the rain misses us.

If you’re traveling this weekend, you might be interested in the new national weather forecast page I’ve added to the site. It’s updated twice a day at 9 AM and 9 PM. I hope to update it soon so it will also have current conditions as well.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.
