Much Colder Weather On The Way
It may seem hard to believe now, with temperatures in the 80s, but the Atlanta area is expected to have much colder weather by this weekend, and it doesn’t look like we’ll see 80 degrees again until sometime in May.
A frontal system more typical of wintry weather is stretching from Colorado through Western Pennsylvania, bringing the possibility of snow by this weekend to the Great Lakes area. This front will trend South, bring a possibility of thunderstorms to the area by Friday.
By Saturday morning, the front will have moved off the Georgia coast, bringing in colder air. While the National Weather Service is predicting lows Saturday and Sunday night around 40, both weather.com and accuweather.com are predicting lows in the upper 30s for the two nights, with highs Saturday barely breaking 60 degrees.
Recent model runs are trending towards lower temperatures for the weekend as well, including the possibility of below freezing weather in the Georgia mountains. I wouldn’t be surprised if the NWS drops their predicted low temperatures as we get closer to the weekend.
Longer term, it looks like we’ll be returning to more early springlike weather through the end of the month, with highs in the upper 60s to around 70.
