Compared to Some Places, We’re in a Dry Spell

As I keep my eye on the weather conditions, it seemed to me that here in Gwinnett, we have been missing most of the early spring rains that have passed through over the last two weeks, after the weather pattern changed from a northern to a southern flow.

I dug around a bit, and came up with this graphic, which illustrates the percentage of normal rainfall since March 9th:

As you can see, areas to our north and south have experienced between 140 and 300% of normal precipitation over the last two weeks, while Gwinnett is running about 60% of normal.

In the last two weeks, I’ve recorded 1.47 inches of rain, with almost half of that in the last two days. Meanwhile, Albany has recorded 2.9 inches, Jesup 3.57 inches, Valdosta has had 4.35 inches, and even Cartersville has recorded 2.27 inches. And let’s not even think about Sarasota, Florida with 4.29 inches, and West Palm Beach, with 4.68 inches.

Right now, it looks like we’re in for some wonderful spring weather through Sunday, when there’s a chance of thunderstorms. After that, it’s smooth sailing for the Bellsouth Classic golf tournament, with the next chance of rain on April Fool’s day, and again on April 5th.
