A Chilly Start to the Week
The unusual springlike conditions finally came to an end on Friday, ending two weeks of unusually warm weather for early January. The colder air followed a front that brought just under one inch of rain as measured here. The sudden change in temperatures even brought some thunderstorms to some areas, although I didn’t notice any here.
The new week brings a round of colder air for the early part of the week, and a chance of precipitation on Thursday and Saturday. A high pressure area centered over Missouri will move East and into our area tonight, bringing in dry, cold air. As you can see in the map to the right from the National Weather Service, low temperatures Monday night could drop into the upper teens in Gwinnett, with slightly warmer temps in Atlanta, and colder temperatures in the mountains.
After that, the temps will moderate as the week goes on. There is some chance of precipitation late Wednesday, and again next weekend, although at this time, the probability isn’t very high.
Looking ahead to the week of January 24th, expect below average temperatures and precipitation.
