A Chilly Start to February
Saturday’s freezing rain has moved north, and is now causing problems for folks in Virginia, Maryland, and DC. With temperatures here in Lawrenceville already at 32°, the ice should be off the trees and melting away from the streets and yards by later today.
Taking a look at the week ahead, it’s going to be slightly cooler than normal early, with highs not breaking 50. (Normal high this time of year is 52). While the current forecast looks fairly benign, there is a lot of uncertainty about what will actually happen. It’s possible that we’ll see another episode of wintry weather sometime in the Thursday or Friday timeframe, with another warm, rainy system currently just below the Oklahoma panhandle moving east.
Longer term, forecasters are talking about a definite change in the weather sometime during the week of the 6th. We could experience much colder than normal temperatures, with an arctic blast moving in. The National Weather Center’s long range forecast is calling above normal precipitation during that time period as well.
